Here is today’s featured foundation.
The Conservation Alliance
Website: https://conservationalliance.com/
Mission & Purpose: To harness the collective power of business and outdoor communities to fund and partner with grassroots organizations to protect wild places. This is a group of outdoor businesses (like Patagonia, REI, etc.) that pool their money to make grants.
Broad Funding Guidelines: This is a national funder (covering North America). They fund 501(c)(3) organizations that are working to protect specific wild places (land or water) for their habitat and recreational value. They do not fund general education or restoration; they fund advocacy campaigns to secure permanent protection (e.g., getting a wilderness designation). Applications are often by nomination from member companies, but they also accept direct inquiries.
Featured Opportunity: The "Confluence Program" is a newer initiative designed to support community-led conservation groups that have been historically racially excluded. These grants (average $50,000) support groups led by Asian, Black, Brown, Hispanic, Indigenous, and Latin American people working to protect natural places.
Recommendation: A grassroots environmental group (especially one led by people of color) that is running a specific campaign to permanently protect a local river, forest, or climbing area from development.
